This year, the Science and Technology Awards Scheme is open for application starting fromtomorrow (July 20) to July 31. To help the science and technology sector learn more about the new Scheme, FDCT held a “Briefing on Science and Technology Awards Scheme” today (June 19) at the University of Macau, chaired by Che Weng Keong, President of the Administrative Committee of FDCT, Cheang Kun Wai and Ip Kuai Lam, members of the Administrative Committee, Consultant Liu Lianggang, and Senior Manager Chan Kong On. Reward scope expanded to local postgraduates studying outside Macao
According to President Che Weng Keong, the implementation of the Science and Technology Awards Scheme plays an important role in inspiring researchers to pursue excellence in research and shaping the innovation-friendly environment. It also boosts scientific development, facilitates the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, as well as promotes their applications. Since 2012, the SAR Government has successfully held the science and technology awards events for six editions, with a total of 289 awards conferred. Under the support of a number of funding schemes and awards, scientific researchers and technology talents work together to significantly improve Macao’s scientific and technological strengths, contributing to China’s development into a scientific and technological powerhouse, as well as laying the good groundwork for the development of high-tech industries in Macao and Hengqin.
To better align with the policy address and the economic and social development goals of the SAR Government, the new Science and Technology Awards Scheme is to further guide scientific researchers and technology talents to focus on the quality of research achievements, and more actively promote the transformation, application and industrialization of research achievements. The new Scheme also has an expanded reward scope, benefiting local students who are pursuing a postgraduate program in science and technology outside Macao, with a view to providing more support for young researchers and technology talents. It is expected that these updates can continuously improve theScheme and facilitate the development of science and technology in Macao.

In the Q&A session, the participants were active in asking questions, such as the selection of award types, the key points of formal examination, the review process and the method of completingthe application form. And the co-chairs from FDCT answered and explained these questions one by one.
