Community-Based Smart Mini Chinese Medicine Pharmacy

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is widely recognized for its efficacy in health preservation and disease treatment. The integration of traditional TCM with modern smart technologies yields enhanced results and significantly meets the growing demands for healthcare and wellness services.
Supported by the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), Singou Tecnologia (Macau) Lda. has developed a smart mini Chinese medicine pharmacy. Through the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and robotics, and based on commonly used Chinese herbal decoction pieces and granules, the project extends TCM services to community settings, enabling on-site rapid preparation of herbal remedies.
Based on prior research, the project team collaborated with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Traditional Chinese Medicine Laboratory in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, integrating intelligent robotics, the Hengqin TCM large model, and advanced technologies like DeepSeek. The result is an AI-powered TCM robot capable of delivering diagnosis and preparing herbal remedies within 3 to 8 minutes. Three product versions — professional, general public, and simplified — have been developed, with over 20 patented technologies and a selection of more than 100 medicinal and edible herb prescriptions. The technology has reached industrial maturity and helps bring TCM services to the community level.
The project is led by a research team from the Macau University of Science and Technology, which, in collaboration with the Guangdong TCM Laboratory in Hengqin, co-founded a commercial entity — Zhuhai Ao Ben Tong Health Technology Co., Ltd. The entity has established a full-chain development model encompassing R&D, commercialization, and operation. Its R&D base, located in the Guangdong-Macao Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park, focuses on hardware development, TCM AI algorithm iteration, intellectual property system construction, and market access certification, forming a localized hub for industry-academia-research collaboration.
The project has already been implemented at 20 operation sites in the Greater Bay Area, including renowned pharmacy chains and tertiary hospitals. It aims to deploy several hundred units within the year. Through the model of “Technology Penetration into Communities + Service Coverage in the Greater Bay Area,” the project promotes the intelligent and convenient development of TCM services and supports the internationalization of TCM culture via the Hengqin Cooperation Zone.
Looking ahead, the project will leverage the collaborative advantages of Macao and Hengqin to accelerate the construction of a “Smart TCM” ecosystem, completing the entire industry chain from R&D to end-user service, and providing more precise and efficient AI-driven TCM services.
