2026 Science and Technology Awards Now Open for Applications
27/05/2026
Applications for the 2026 Science and Technology Awards are open from May 8 to June 22. To give Macao’s science and technology community a full understanding of the newly revised awards scheme, the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) held a briefing session yesterday (May 26) to introduce the latest updates to the awards scheme and provide details on this year’s application process. The session attracted nearly 100 expert representatives from universities, enterprises, and professional associations. Through continued improvement of the awards mechanism, the FDCT aims to foster a more fertile research environment that encourages innovation and creativity, motivating science and technology professionals to pursue cutting-edge research while promoting the translation of outstanding achievements into practical applications.

During the session, FDCT Committee Member Ip Kuai Lam noted that the Macao SAR Government places a strong emphasis on R&D and industrial development and continues to refine policy support and incentive mechanisms to create a thriving research ecosystem. Since the establishment of the Science and Technology Awards mechanism, it has recognized a large number of individuals who have made outstanding contributions to R&D, technological innovation, and achievement transformation, effectively sparking the enthusiasm and creativity of Macao’s science and technology professionals.

He further explained that the newly revised Science and Technology Awards Scheme has expanded its scope to include the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Research projects can now be conducted and completed in either Macao or Hengqin, which encourages joint innovation and resource sharing among researchers from both regions. The awards scheme is designed to deepen the integration of the science and technology industries in Macao and Hengqin and to support the development of an international technological innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The awards scheme covers fundamental research, technological inventions, scientific and technological progress, youth talent cultivation, and additional support for national award winners, with clearer, more standardized application requirements, evaluation criteria, and documentation requirements.

Following Mr. Ip’s remarks, Senior Manager Chan Kong On gave a detailed overview of the Science and Technology Awards Scheme’s specific provisions and application procedures. The Q&A session saw active participation from attendees, with questions raised on award category selection, the key requirements of the formal examination, the evaluation process, and how to correctly complete the application form. FDCT representatives answered each question with thorough explanations and clarifications.
