45 Participants from Four Continents Attend Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Advanced Training Program for Mechanism and Quality of Chinese Medicine Held at MUST

The Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) of the Macao SAR and the China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC) jointly organized the “2026 Advanced Training Program for Mechanism and Quality of Chinese Medicine” in Macao from May 10 to 16, 2026. The program is jointly hosted by the two State Key Laboratories of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine at Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the University of Macau (UM). A total of 45 participants from four continents — Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania — are taking part in the program.

Welcome remarks were delivered by U U Sang, President of the Administrative Committee of FDCT; Xu Hongbin, Deputy Director of the China Science and Technology Exchange Center; and Jiang Zhihong, Vice President of MUST.

The opening ceremony was held this morning (May 11) at the N101 Auditorium of the Library Building at MUST. Guests from various sectors in Chinese mainland and Macao, program participants, and representatives of MUST faculty and students attended the ceremony. Welcome remarks were delivered by U U Sang, President of the Administrative Committee of FDCT; Xu Hongbin, Deputy Director of the China Science and Technology Exchange Center; and Jiang Zhihong, Vice President of MUST. Other distinguished guests attending the ceremony included Xu Zhiping, representative of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR; Guan Haibo, Director of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the CSTEC; Chan Chou Weng, Deputy Director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; Lei Sai Ian, Deputy Director of the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; Ge Wei, Vice Rector of the University of Macau; Wong Kin Mou, Deputy Secretary-General of the Secretariat of the Talent Development Committee; Wang Dan, Deputy General Manager of the Yue’ao Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park Development Co., Ltd.  ; and Li Shaoping, Secretary-General of the Western Pacific Regional Forum for the Harmonization of Herbal Medicines.

This year’s training program recruited participants from research institutions and enterprises in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in the Chinese mainland, Macao, Belt and Road countries, Brazil, and Portugal. A total of 45 participants were admitted, including 24 from the Chinese mainland, 7 from Macao, 1 from Singapore, 2 from Malaysia, 1 from Australia, 5 from Brazil, and 5 from Portugal.

The training program invited renowned experts and scholars from the Chinese mainland and Macao to deliver lectures, including Yang Zifeng, Vice President of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University / Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health; Chen Yan, Assistant Professor at the School of Pharmacy of Shenzhen University; and a group of senior instructors from the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine at MUST and the University of Macau. In addition, Lam Fu Chong, Chief of the Division of TCM at the Pharmaceutical Administration Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, and Chan Tak Meng, Head of Division of the Talent Development Committee, also delivered special presentations for participants. Topics covered in the program included Macao’s regulatory system for TCM materials, Macao’s talent policies, innovative TCM drug development, introductions to modern mass spectrometry technologies, key issues in TCM quality control, artificial intelligence (AI) in the modernization of TCM, and TCM research, development, and regulation in the AI era. The training program also arranged for participants to visit the two State Key Laboratories of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine at MUST and UM, and to conduct exchange visits to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao in Hengqin.
