A delegation led by U U Sang, President of the Administrative Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund (hereinafter referred to as the FDCT), visited the Siemens Xcelerator Yangtze River Delta Technology Innovation Empowerment Center, an innovation facility established by the renowned German enterprise Siemens, in mid-March. The delegation also included representatives from the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) and members of the preparatory team for Macao’s International Science and Technology Industrial Center. During the visit, the delegation held meetings with multiple technology companies from the Yangtze River Delta region. Some enterprises from East China expressed optimism about Macao’s prospects for technological development and indicated interest in initiating university-industry collaboration with higher education institutions in Macao, with a view to implementing more technological innovations in the city.
The facility visited is the world’s first offline experience and application service center of its kind. During the trip, the delegation also met with four tech enterprises from the Yangtze River Delta region specializing in biomedicine, digital economy, industrial internet, and high-end equipment.
Fostering greater industry-academia-research synergy between Macao and the Yangtze River Delta
The delegation visited the newly operational “Siemens Xcelerator Yangtze River Delta Technology Innovation Empowerment Center”, a one-stop service platform assisting intelligent manufacturing enterprises to facilitate intelligent transformation, digital transformation, as well as networked connectivity, while also offering talent cultivation services. The delegation held talks with Shang Huijie, Senior Vice President of Siemens Ltd., China, engaging in in-depth discussions on intelligent manufacturing, networked connectivity, and talent development.
During the visit, the delegation met with senior management teams from four tech enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta region specializing in biomedicine, digital economy, industrial internet, and high-end equipment. The two sides exchanged views on university-industry collaboration models, industry-academia-research project matching, talent cultivation programs, and pathways for the commercialization of research outcomes. Through face-to-face exchanges, enterprises gained a deeper understanding of the latest developments in technological innovation at Macao’s higher education institutions and local enterprises, while also expressing their recognition of the Macao SAR Government’s recent initiatives, including the Macao Technology Research Industrial Park and the government guidance fund , highlighting the instrumental role of these policies in attracting research resources and corporate investment within and outside the region, ultimately promoting regional innovation collaboration.
During the exchanges, two East China enterprises explicitly expressed their confidence in Macao’s outlook for technology development and stated their intention to initiate industry-academia-research collaboration with Macao’s higher education institutions, followed by the introduction of more technological innovations to Macao.
Other members of the Macao SAR Government delegation on this visit included: Lei Chon Kit, Head of the Technology Industry Promotion Division at the DSEDT; Che Wai Meng, Senior Manager of the Project Transformation and Support Department at the FDCT; Cheong Chi Nong, Deputy Director of Macao’s International Science and Technology Industrial Center; and Wu Cong, Deputy Director of Project Introduction and Investment at the center. The SAR Government will continue to deepen cooperation with tech enterprises in key mainland cities through diverse channels. Leveraging the introduction of the government guidance fund and the Macao Technology Research Industrial Park, it aims to strengthen industry-academia-research collaboration and drive the implementation of scientific research outcomes in Macao, injecting sustained momentum into the city’s appropriate economic diversification and high-quality economic development.
