The FDCT Strengthens Ties with Macao and Hengqin Tech Enterprises to Advance Research Commercialization
20/02/2026
As 2026 begins, the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (hereinafter referred to as FDCT) is stepping up efforts to connect with local and regional innovation partners. The FDCT has recently visited several technology enterprises in Macao and in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin to gain deeper insight into their R&D progress and applications, identify development needs, and promote the transformation of research results into market-ready products—helping drive Macao’s appropriate economic diversification development.

During recent visits to local environmental technology enterprises, the FDCT team examined the development and application of technologies such as waste oil recycling and new remote-controlled desilting robots for box culverts. Enterprise representatives expressed their hope that the FDCT will continue to support R&D and pilot projects in environmental technology, promoting the local adoption of green innovation.

The FDCT also met with Macao-funded tech enterprises in the Cooperation Zone to learn about their ongoing projects in fields such as biotechnology and nanomaterials. These enterprises voiced their commitment to the “Develop in Macao, Commercialize in Hengqin” model, which aims to overcome bottlenecks in industrialization, accelerate the transition from research to production, and facilitate the application and dissemination of scientific achievements across the Cooperation Zone.

In the first two months of 2026, the FDCT opened applications for several funding programs covering a wide range of areas, including Guangdong-Macao technology collaboration, enterprise innovation, and R&D, as well as scientific and innovative research. The number of applications received increased by approximately 50% compared to the same period last year. Of these, the “Funding for Enterprise Innovation and R&D” attracted 40 applications, reflecting increasing R&D investment and innovation among local enterprises.
Looking ahead, the FDCT will continue engaging with technology enterprises to better understand their evolving needs while refining its funding mechanisms to further boost research transformation and industrialization. It will also support Macao in playing a greater role in the regional innovation landscape and in advancing toward high-quality economic development.
