Funding Scheme for Innovation and Research of Enterprises – Matching Projects FDCT Holds Briefing Sessions to Promote Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration
20/03/2025
To align with the “1+4” appropriate economic diversification strategy and to accelerate the integration of the industry, academia and research sectors, the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) held three briefing sessions in March this year. These sessions were organised in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the University of Macau, the Wu Choi Kun Centre for Entrepreneurship and Employment of the City University of Macau, and the Macau Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre, with the aim of further promoting the “Funding Scheme for Innovation and Research of Enterprises” – Matching Projects (hereinafter referred to as the “Scheme”) to researchers from higher education institutions, start-ups, and enterprises.

Industry-academia-research collaboration is one of the key drivers of innovation and economic development. Through this Scheme, the FDCT aims to build a bridge between enterprises and higher education institutions, accelerating the integration of research outcomes with industrial applications and fostering the integrated development of the industry, academia and research sectors, thereby assisting enterprises in their upgrading and transformation. Through the matching service, the Scheme facilitates the alignment between the technological needs of local enterprises and the research outcomes of academic and research institutions. For projects successfully matched and meeting the eligibility criteria, a portion of the research and development (R&D) costs borne by the enterprises may be subsidised, thus lowering the threshold for enterprise innovation and R&D.

From its launch in July 2021 to February 2025, a total of 99 technological demands and 315 research outcomes have been published on the “Online Matching Platform for Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration”, with 88 successful matches made. Among them, 72 projects have already applied for funding, demonstrating the Scheme’s active role in promoting collaboration among the industry, academia and research sectors.

The three briefing sessions attracted over a hundred participants, including researchers from higher education institutions, representatives of start-ups and enterprises. During the sessions, information was provided on the Scheme’s matching services and application procedures, enabling participants to gain a better understanding of the FDCT’s support for enterprise R&D and industry-academia-research cooperation. The atmosphere was lively, with participants actively engaging in discussions and raising questions on topics such as enterprise collaboration with academia, transformation of research outcomes, and funding application requirements.
