To foster academic exchange and research collaboration between the Chinese mainland and Macao in the field of materials science and to explore new pathways for the development of materials science, the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) co-organized the "NSFC-FDCT New Era High-Quality Development Forum on Materials Science." The forum was held on November 30 in Qinzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with the support of the Qinzhou Municipal Government and hosted by Beibu Gulf University. FDCT invited more than ten experts and scholars from institutions such as the University of Macau, Macau University of Science and Technology, and Macao-based enterprises to participate in the forum.
Miao Hongyan, Deputy Director of the Department of Engineering and Materials Science of NSFC, Ip Kui Lam, Member of the Administrative Committee of FDCT, and Wang Xiongchang, Mayor of Qinzhou, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Miao Hongyan expressed hope that the forum would effectively promote innovative collaboration between the scientific communities of Macao and the mainland, strengthen the alignment of scientific talent and resources, and achieve complementarity of strengths and regional innovation coordination. She emphasized its role in advancing the construction of an international science and technology innovation center in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and contributing to the broader goal of building China into a strong science and technology nation. Ip Kui Lam reflected on nearly 20 years of collaboration between FDCT and NSFC and encouraged experts from both regions to use the forum as an opportunity to enhance research cooperation, seize opportunities in the development of Macao and Hengqin's materials industries, and contribute to the overall socio-economic development agenda.
Huang Zhibiao, Second-Level Inspector of the Guangxi Department of Science and Technology, Wang Wenze, Deputy Mayor of Qinzhou, and representatives from NSFC, FDCT, Beibu Gulf University, and other organizations attended the event.
The forum, themed "Opportunities and New Missions in the Field of Materials Science," featured two segments: keynote presentations and sub-forums. During the event, 22 experts and scholars delivered thematic speeches and engaged in discussions. The forum had a strong academic atmosphere, with in-depth discussions centered on the opportunities and new missions in the field of materials science, injecting fresh momentum into the high-quality development of national materials science.
