The four-day "2024 Science and Technology Week and Innovation and Technology Achievements Exhibition" (Science and Technology Week), held from October 16 to 19, successfully concluded. Supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and organized by the Macao Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), this year’s Science and Technology Week coincided with the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to China, and was held concurrently with the Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (MIF). This synergy enhanced the efficiency of resource utilization.
This Science and Technology Week brought together various entities from Macao, Hengqin, and neighboring regions within the technology innovation chain. Aligned with the SAR Government's "1+4" moderately diversified development strategy, it used exhibitions and a series of accompanying activities to strengthen regional collaboration, assist tech enterprises in promotion and business creation, support coordinated development of tech talent, advance industry-university-research cooperation, and establish a platform in Macao for transforming research results and fostering industry-university-research cooperation.
Diverse Supporting Activities Facilitate Exchanges and Connections
The event attracted over 110 exhibitors and set up more than 160 booths, showcasing numerous tech enterprises and research teams from Macao and Hengqin. To enhance the role of Science and Technology Week as a platform, various supporting activities were held, including the "Mainland-Macao Industry-University-Research Cooperation Roadshow and Matching Event." This involved organizing 17 research outcomes with commercialization potential from Macao and five tech companies, conducting nearly 160 meetings with over 70 innovative entities from Guangdong, Jiangsu, Hunan, and Sichuan, and led to the signing of 30 letters of intent for cooperation. Additionally, representatives from the Drug Supervision and Administration Bureau introduced the registration system for Chinese patent medicines in Macao to participants, promoting the development of the health industry.
The "2024 Annual Research Project Completion Exhibition and Academic Symposium" showcased 160 completed research projects from the previous year. Invited speakers included Deputy General Manager Huang Ying of Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Holdings (Macao) Co., Ltd., who presented on "The Advantages of State-Owned Enterprises Settling in Macao and Developing the Health Industry," and Vice President Zhou Wanlei of the City University of Macau, who discussed the university’s research development journey. Other invited speakers included five prominent project leaders, such as Rector Song Yonghua of the University of Macau, who delivered academic reports.
The "Technology Talent Supply and Demand Meeting" created a bridge between tech companies and local graduates and young people in the science and technology sector, attracting tech talent to Macao and Hengqin. During the event, 23 Macao-Hengqin tech companies offered 75 job types, totaling 145 vacancies and internship opportunities. The event attracted around 120 participants, who engaged in face-to-face exchanges with companies and gained insight into industry trends and career prospects. Over 130 resumes were submitted to companies on-site.
The "Technology and Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprises Matching Event" brought together 24 Macao tech companies exhibiting at Science and Technology Week with six major integrated tourism and leisure enterprises from Macao. This allowed tech companies to showcase their products and services and engage in direct negotiations with representatives from the tourism and leisure sector, strengthening cooperation and supporting tech companies in business expansion.
During Science and Technology Week, technology-related organizations were encouraged to hold product release conferences, signing ceremonies, and tech forums, totaling five related events. These gatherings brought together representatives from government, industry, academia, and research to discuss topics such as artificial intelligence, health tourism, biotechnology, and sustainable development.
