【Support for 1+4 Talent Cultivation】 FDCT Conducted “Technology Readiness Assessment Training
06/06/2024
In order to promote the construction of a full-cycle technology assessment system which takestechnology readiness level (TRL) as the core for scientific research projects, and to further enhance local scientific researchers’ understanding of the relevant evaluation system, FDCT invited experts from National Center for Science & Technology Evaluation (NCSTE) under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and the Fifth Electronics Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to serve as mentors and hold the “Technology Readiness Assessment Training” on 5 June.

Setting up an assessment system for promoting the development of applied R&D
Since 2021, FDCT has launched an assessment system in phases for scientific research projects. With the staunch support of the MOST, FDCT has teamed up with the NCSTE, the authoritative assessment institution, to establish an evaluation management mechanism for making the full-cycle assessment in the aspects of procedure, detailed rules and supervision, targeting the three phases of the projects, namely, the prior period, the mid-term phase and the conclusion phase. The two parties drew on domestic and international experiences and practices of different science and technology departments during the process. As a result, a full-cycle technology evaluation system for scientific research projects was successfully built, taking the technology readiness as the foundation.

Optimizing the evaluation system on a continuous basis for supporting the development of industrialization
The content of this online training session included the theory of technology readiness assessment (TRA), project management methods and applications, covering the basic knowledge, purposes, functions, indicators, levels, applications and limitations concerning the TRL. It also featured practical applications and case studies at the same time, in order to deepen scientific researchers’ comprehension of TRA. Over 150 representatives from higher education institutions and enterprises in Macao participated in this online training.
FDCT will continue to review and enhance the full-cycle TRA system, promote its wider application, and conduct evaluations in mid-term and final stages in various key projects based on this system, so as to facilitate Macao’s scientific research in alignment of applications and industrial development.
