Supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC, the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) hosted the Science and Technology Week 2023 cum Exhibition of Achievements in Science and Technology Innovation (Science and Technology Week) from 19 to 22 October this year at Cotai Expo, the Venetian Macao, with the Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF) held in parallel at the same venue.
In order to facilitate the transformation of scientific research achievements in Macao and leverage its role as a platform for industry-university-research partnerships, the “Industry-University-Research Collaboration Roadshow and Matchmaking Meeting Between Mainland China and Macao” and the “China Innovation” Technology Roadshow – Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Big Health (Macao and Hengqin) Special Session were held during the Science and Technology Week, through which different modes were adopted to promote the transformation of scientific research achievements in local academic research institutions and technology innovation enterprises, highlighting the element of S&T cooperation between Macao and Hengqin so as to enhance their joint investment promotion.
Over 70 letters of intent for cooperation signed to boost industry-university-research collaboration and enterprise partnerships
Co-organized by FDCT, the China Science and Technology Exchange Center, and the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, the “Industry-University-Research Collaboration Roadshow and Matchmaking Meeting Between Mainland China and Macao” has been held in Macao and Guangzhou previously. At this year’s event, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Economic Development Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin are invited to introduce participants to the Macao-Hengqin investment environment and relevant policy support in an effort to further facilitate the Macao-Hengqin joint investment promotion. Moreover, business matching sessions for enterprises are newly launched to assist in the development of local S&T innovation industry, in addition to the existing industry-university-research matching activities.
The matchmaking meeting adopts the mode of “proposal solicitation in the early stage, online roadshow in the mid-stage, and on-site matchmaking and negotiation in the later stage”. At the event, FDCT organized 25 technology enterprises to showcase 26 scientific research achievements in Macao, and forwarded the relevant information to the mainland participating units to attract interested enterprises, venture capital institutions, incubators, technology transfer centers, and among others. After preliminary matchmaking, mutual understanding will be further developed via online roadshows. Then, both parties will come to Macao to participate in the matchmaking meeting held at the Science and Technology Week.
During the matchmaking meeting, approximately 320 matching sessions were held between Macao entities and nearly 70 enterprises coming from Guangdong, Hunan, Liaoning and Tianjin. Both sides expressed their interest in follow-up negotiation, and more than 70 letters of intent for cooperation were signed on site.
