The Science and Technology Week Facilitates S&T Promotion to Build Macao’s Industry-University-Research Cooperation

The three-day “Science and Technology Week 2022 cum Exhibition of Achievements in Science and Technology Innovation” ( the “Science and Technology Week”) ended successfully today (October 21, 2022). In order to effectively utilize resources to see a synergy effect and strengthen industry-university-research linkages. This year’s event coincided once again with the Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF) at the same venue.

The “Science and Technology Week”, through the exhibitions and a series of supporting activities, brings together different units in the scientific and technological innovation chain, facilitates Macao’s scientific and technological innovation, helps promote science and technology, and builds a platform for the transformation of scientific research achievements and industry-university-research cooperation in Macao.

A number of supporting activities to increase the effectiveness

In order to enhance the effectiveness of the exhibitions, a number of supporting activities were held during the “Science and Technology Week, including: the “The Exhibition for Scientific Research Project Completion and Academic Report Conference 2021” to display to members of the public the results of completed scientific research projects funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT), providing opportunities for exchange and deepening participants’ understanding of Macao’s cutting-edge scientific research capabilities.

The “Industry-University-Research Collaboration Roadshow and Matchmaking Meeting Between Mainland China and Macao” gathered 25 scientific research achievements in Macao, carried out matching sessions with more than 60 innovative entities from the Mainland, arranged more than 140 meetings and negotiations, in which 32 sets of 16 letters of intent for cooperation were signed on the spot.

The Technology Roadshow of “Innovation China” - Information Technology (Macao) Special Session has organized 6 outstanding IT enterprises in Macao to participate in the promotion of its technology projects through the online platform of “Innovation China”, connecting with capitals from the Mainland.

The two sessions of the Forum for Innovation and Technology Macao 2022, respectively themed as the “Big Health Industry” and the “Metaverse”, inspired the participants to think deeply about the two topics through the discussion, sharing and exchange among the representatives of the government, industries, the academia and research institutions.

The successful holding of the “Science and Technology Week” has been strongly supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People’s Republic of China, the China Science and Technology Exchange Center (CSTEC), the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM), the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), the Parafuturo de Macau Investment and Development Limited, and the Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre, as well as local and Mainland units, including higher education institutions in Macao.

Setting up four exhibition zones and technology tours

The “Science and Technology Week” has an exhibition area of 3200 square meters, attracting 120 exhibitors to set up 190 booths, which were divided into four exhibition zones, respectively: the Technology and Innovation Enterprises Zone, in which 137 booths were set up by 107 participating enterprises, with Macao’s enterprises accounting for 80%; the Scientific Research Results Transformation Zone, in which 30 booths were set up to display the scientific research results of projects from 4 higher education institutions in Macao funded by the FDCT; the Scientific Research Results Promotion Zone, in which 12 booths were set up to present the results of this year’s “Scientific Research Results Promotion Events”; and the Interactive Technology Zone, in which 8 booths to exhibit interactively the latest technology and scientific research results in the Mainland.

This is the first time that exhibitors provided AR technology tours and check-in activities, so that the audience can enhance their understanding of innovative technology through personal experiences, and improve the fun of technology promotion.
