Cooperation between the NSFC and the FDCT began in 2005. In 2016, a memorandum of understanding was formally signed to establish a joint funding mechanism. The collaboration between the two regions has achieved fruitful results, promoting interaction and integration of science and technology between the mainland and Macao. In particular, the joint funding has yielded positive results. He also mentioned that he had just returned from visiting Macao with President Dou Xiankang of the NSFC. Aiming to further enhance scientific and technological cooperation between the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao, the NSFC will continue to expand its openness and start applications of the NSFC Research Fund for Outstanding Young Scientists for Hong Kong and Macao. Finally, he hoped that the participating experts would exchange research progress, share achievements through this forum, and provide suggestions for the high-quality development of TCM.

Member Ip Kuai Lam pointed out in his speech that the NSFC and the FDCT had worked closely together for many years and had achieved remarkable results in joint funding, academic exchanges and personnel visits, providing strong impetus to the development of Macao’s big health industry. Traditional Chinese Medicine & big health is one of the four emerging industries prioritized by the Macao government. Hence, the FDCT will continue to support and promote the development of TCM in accordance with the policies of the SAR government. This forum provides a platform for experts from Macao and the mainland to share achievements and exchange ideas. It is hoped that this event will further boost scientific research collaboration in TCM between the two regions and contribute to the high-quality development of TCM.

Academician Yang Baofeng of Harbin Medical University delivered a keynote speech on “Promoting the High-Quality Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine through Cross-Disciplinary Integration”.
