President Ma Chi Ngai said in his speech that FDCT has been sparing no effort to promote the scientific research and strengthen the atmosphere of scientific research in Macao. The funding budget for projects has increased from 247 million patacas in 2018 to 535 million patacas in 2019. As of October 2019, FDCT had received 604 applications for various research projects. So far, 260 projects have been approved with a total amount of nearly 340 million patacas. In order to encourage cooperation between researchers of Macao and those from research institutes outside Macao and improve their scientific research levels, this year FDCT has launched a joint scientific research grant with the Guangdong Science and Technology Department and a joint scientific research funding with the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT). To vigorously drive scientific and technological innovation and step up support for key areas, FDCT has formulated a special funding scheme for key research and development in Macao, so as to further pool Macao’s scientific and technological resources, and to realize interdisciplinary complementarity and integrated innovation. Efforts will be made to achieve scientific research results ready for commercialization on this basis. The FDCT also sets great store by cultivating scientific research talents, and hence it has launched two special funding schemes, i.e., the “Funding Scheme for the Scientific Research Devices and Equipment of Higher Education Institutions” and the “Funding Scheme for Postdoctoral Students of Higher Education Institutions”. In so doing, we can further enhance the scientific research and innovation capabilities and improve the hardware conditions of local higher education institutions.

This event showcased 76 completed projects of scientific research for the year of 2018. Professor Wang Yitao, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Quality Research in Chinese Medicine, University of Macau, and Professor Zhang Keke, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences, Macau University of Science and Technology, were invited to give keynote speeches respectively on “Scientific and Technological Innovation in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Industrial Platform Building in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and “Earth-like Planetary Magnetic Field Detection and Macao’s First Scientific Satellite Project”. Following the keynote speeches, an academic report was held concurrently under four themes at four venues for 16 project leaders to introduce their research findings.

The Scientific Research Projects Result Exhibition was held in front of the library of Macau University of Science and Technology from November 6 to 13, 2019, and will be moved to Room N21-G015 of the University of Macau from November 13 to 20, 2019.
