2017 Sharing Session of the Special Funding Project of the Smart City

The 2017 Sharing Session of the Special Funding Project of the Smart City was held in the Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre (“MYEIC”) at 15:00 on October 29. Guests present at the session were Tam Kai Cho, Member of the Trustee Committee of the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT); Ma Chi Ngai, President of the Administrative Committee of FDCT; Cheang Kun Wai, Member of the Administrative Committee of FDCT; Liu Lianggang, Technology Consultant of FDCT; Chu Iek Man, Senior Manager of the Funding Services Department of FDCT; Wei Lixin, Vice President of PFM Macau; Wu Chou Kit, Member of the Legislative Assembly; Ma Hok Cheung, Director of Kiang Wu Hospital; Chan Tai Ip, Deputy Director of Kiang Wu Hospital; Pong Kai Fu, Head of the Research Department of the Economic Bureau; Un Kin Chong, Head of the Department of Economy and Livelihoods of the Policy Research and Regional Development Bureau; and Lai Iok In, Head of the Division of Organization and Information of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau.
 
Cheang Kun Wai said in his speech that FDCT has launched a special funding scheme for the construction of the smart city since 2017, in line with the administrative policy of the Macao SAR government, which has encouraged individuals, enterprises and research institutes to develop various smart city-related applications and solutions for Macao. A total of 104 applications were received for the special funding scheme in 2017, with a total amount of over 49.792 million patacas. The amount of each application did not exceed 500,000 patacas. 35 of the projects are in the category of e-commerce and government affairs, 35 in the category of smart transportation and tourism, and 34 in the category of smart medical care and others. 14 projects with a total funding of 4,434,600 patacas were approved after being reviewed. These R&D projects have recently been completed and final reports submitted.
 
Cheang Kun Wai also reported the application status of this year. He said that 17 applications for the funding scheme had been received during the application period between September 5 and October 8, with a total application amount of over 7.88 million patacas. The amount of each application did not exceed 500,000 patacas. Eight of the applications were from individuals, four from colleges and universities and five from enterprises.
 
Lu Hong, President of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao; Shuen Ka Hung, Director General of the Macao Productivity and Technology Transfer Center; Iao Seng Tong, Zheng Jiezhao, Chan Kuai Son, and Lee Koi Ian, Members of the Select Committee of Smart City of the Technology Committee; Lao Seng Kin, Senior Instructor of the Department of Electromechanical Engineering, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau; Wong Kao Seng, Venture Partner of MindWorks Ventures; and Raymond Lao, Founder of the Macau Envision Accelerator were present and served as judges, providing guidance for the follow-up work of each project. The leaders of the 14 approved projects shared the project results at the session, so that the leaders of the scientific research projects could better understand the market situation and needs, and the research results could be commercialized better in line with the needs of the market.
