The scientific and technological innovation research group led by Vice Mayor Yan Wu of Zhuhai City visited the Science and Technology Development Fund (FDCT) on27thFebruary for an exchange visit to support Macao's integration into the national development plan, strengthen cooperation on scientific and technological innovation, and promote the integrated development of the Greater Bay Area under the guidance of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (hereinafter as “the Outline Development Plan”).
During the meeting, Ma Chi Ngai, President of the Administrative Committee of the FDCT, warmly welcomed Vice Mayor Wu and the research group, which is the first governmental delegation visiting the FDCT from the Greater Bay Area after the official announcement of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Arealast week. The exchange visit fully demonstrated the closely related scientific and technological cooperation between Zhuhai and Macao, and that the support of Zhuhai on Macao’s science and technology development is crucial. Ma introduced that in order to actively complement the Outline Development Planand promote the development of “Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao” innovation and technology corridor, the FDCT will work with the cities in the Greater Bay Area to implement a series of policies and measures beneficial to the cross-border exchange of talents, capital, information, technology innovation for building a large data center and an important platform for international innovation in the Greater Bay Area. Zhuhai, being the closest neighboring region to Macao with a wider market for development, can help strengthen cooperation among industry, universities and research institutes and facilitate the transfer of scientific and technological achievements to promote mutual science and technology development in Zhuhai and Macao.
According to Yan Wu and the research group, Zhuhai, as an important part of the Macao-Zhuhai region, will actively participate in the development of the Greater Bay Area, strengthen cooperation with Macao and provide policy guidance as support. The re-established Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Bureau will be responsible for coordinating the Zhuhai’s work on scientific and technological innovation, including establishing a standing mechanism for Zhuhai and Macao to exchange on science and technology in the future, actively carry out industry-academia-research cooperation with universities in Macao and commercialize the related scientific and technological achievements in Zhuhai.
The two sides had in-depth conversations on strengthening the science and technology cooperation between them, aiming for a new level of cooperation in the field. The research group also invited the FDCT representatives to visit Zhuhai where they will be presented the latest progress of science and technology innovation there and have more communication and cooperation on scientific and technological achievements. The participants of the exchange visit included: Cheang Kun Wai, Member of the Administrative Committee of the FDCT, Liu Lianggang, Technology Consultant of the FDCT, Wang Lei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the MunicipalScience and Technology Innovation Bureau of Zhuhai, and San Jinghui, Deputy Researcher of the MunicipalScience and Technology Innovation Bureau of Zhuhai.
