During the hit of typhoon
1. During a typhoon, stay indoors as much as possible, stay away from dilapidated buildings, scaffolds, electrical poles, trees, billboards or other structures. Do not enter underpasses or other flood-prone areas.

2. When walking outside, watch out for falling or flying debris to avoid the risk of being injured. Stop and observe first when approaching the street corner, do not act hastily otherwise it is very likely to be injured by flying debris.

3. When walking outside, choose brightly-colored clothing, wear light and waterproof shoes, button up the clothes or properly fasten it with straps, bend down and walk slowly to reduce the area blown by wind. Especially, do not walk barefoot or wear sandals, it is best to wear rain boots to avoid electric shock.

4. Do not walk through a flooded road. Always watch out for any downed power lines. In case of a power line soaked in the water around you or any electrical leakage nearby, do not run in panic, just hop away on one foot.

5. Do not drive out unless it is absolutely necessary. Before setting off, check the vehicle and make sure that the windscreen wipers, brakes and all lights are fully functional. Turn on the fog lights when driving in heavy rains or rainstorms.

6. Drive smart. Keep a safe following distance, reduce frequent merging; slow down and turn the steering wheel gently while making turns, and do not slam on the brakes as this may cause side skidding of vehicle.

7. When driving through a flooded road, always stop to size up the water first. For ordinary household vehicles, do not drive into flood water that exceeds 20cm (the simplest method of measurement is that the water doesn’t submerge the exhaust pipe). Find another way to avoid the car stalling in the water, and do not re-start the engine after the car stalls, otherwise the water will enter the engine cylinders through air intake. It can damage the valve, piston, connecting rod, crankshaft and even the cylinder wall, eventually causing serious “internal injuries” to the engine. When driving through water, do not follow the car in front to avoid being stopped due to the breakdown of the front car.

8. When hit by strong wind, pull over or find shelter. Do not risk driving.

9. Park the car on a high ground. Do not park it under outdoor billboards, trees, or near objects that may be easily blown off such as flower pots and billboards.
