Typhoon damages

1. High winds: struck by ferocious wind force, some dilapidated buildings, wire, doors, windows, signboards, trees and unstable objects will be badly damaged. Land, marine and air transportation services may be suspended consequently. To avoid being injured by falling debris, do not risk going outside during a typhoon.

2. Flooding: the heavy rainfall during a typhoon may cause flooding attributed to drainage failure, or cause the rivers to overflow the banks. Heavy rainfall directly erodes the soil on the hillside, and large amounts of rainwater entering the soil may also cause slope disasters such as landslides.

3. Mudslides: refer to the flow of a mass of mud, rock mixed with a large amount of water along a slope or mountain valley in steep areas under the influence of gravity, triggered by rainstorm or snowstorm. Mudslides can occur suddenly, they are fast-moving flows with substantial capacity and extremely destructive. Mudslides often destroy roads, railways and other transportation facilities, even houses, and cause huge damages.

4. Storm surge: blown by strong winds, the sea surface rises due to low pressure, which can lead to the flowing backwards of sea water pushed into shore.

5. Infectious diseases: tremendous amount of garbage are generated after a typhoon/flood. If it can’t be properly treated and disinfected in time, it will easily cause various infectious diseases such as dysentery.
